Specific Requirements 
for Model Demonstration Projects

Model Demonstration Projects can be clinical, educational, or administrative in nature. The projects may be based in acute, rehabilitation, long-term care, or community settings, and may be targeted for nurses, persons with SCI, family members, or caregivers.

All proposals will be evaluated based upon thoroughness and clarity in addressing the areas described below. Proposals should use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition) format and may not exceed 20 pages excluding the appendices.

A. Table of Contents
The proposal must have a table of contents that precedes the proposal and highlights the areas below, with proper pagination.

B. Key Words
Provide five key words, preferably using the medical subject heading text of the National Library of Medicine.

   C. Abstract
Provide an abstract of up to 150 words of the proposed Demonstration Project. Include an explanation of the project; justification of need, goals, and objectives; and proposed implementation and evaluation plan, including the plan for dissemination of information. 

D. Description of Project 
and Justification of Need 
Provide a comprehensive description and rationale for the proposed project. Discuss its relevance to SCI nursing practice.

E. Goals and Objectives
Specify the goals and objectives that will be addressed by the proposed project.

F. Literature Review
Provide a comprehensive review and a critical analysis of the relevant literature to support the proposal. Provide evidence that the findings from the proposed study will add to the existing body of knowledge.

G. Detailed Plan 
for Evaluation Process
Describe the proposed plan for data analysis and evaluation of process or outcome criteria.

H. Implementation Plan
Provide a comprehensive description of how the proposal will be implemented.

I. Timetable
Provide a detailed, chronological sequence of activities that will occur during the proposed study period.

J. Facility and Resources 
Describe the facility and summarize the resources available to support the proposed project. Include support letters indicating administrative and other 
   support in the appendices section.

K. Qualifications and Responsibility of Personnel
Summarize relevant experience of the project personnel. Information about the qualifications of consultants essential to the study should be included. Include a delineation of the role and responsibilities of project personnel. Submit curricula vitae or resumes for the Project Director and other project staff in the appendices section. 

L. Budget
List all budget items for which funding is requested, as well as funds contributed from other sources. Administrative overhead cost is limited to 12%. (This includes indirect costs.)

Major equipment purchases, that is, computers, laptop computers, video equipment, and so forth, are not generally approved. Any equipment funded must be dedicated to the Project Director for use in the approved project and cannot be converted for other use for the duration of the project. It is expected that the equipment will remain in the applicant institution at the conclusion of the study.

Grant funds generally will not be awarded to support any portion of the salary of the Project Director, unless fully justified in the proposal.

Any changes to the budget in excess of $1,000, after project approval, must be approved in writing by the Chair of the Research Committee.

A line item justification of all budget items must be included in the proposal. Collaborative funding and sharing of resources is encouraged. However, the proposal must contain the specific

guidelines for research and model demonstration project proposals
